Apprenticeships

What are apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are an excellent way for your business to develop employees with the skills and experience you need. Apprentices will get hands-on experience and on-the-job training, and at the same time gain respected qualifications.

The Apprenticeship is available for anyone aged 16-24 (providing they are eligible). Why not develop your existing staff by enrolling them onto the programme. Apprenticeships normally last between a minimum of one and three years and there are two levels:  Apprenticeship & Advanced Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships

  • Employer Responsibilities and Rights - covering employment law and practices and company procedures.
  • NVQ Level 2 in their specialist area. E.g. Food Processing, Food & Drink Service
  • Key Skills - transferable skills including Application of Number and Communication. (Exemptions may apply.)

Advanced Apprenticeships

  • Employer Responsibilities and Rights - covering employment law and practices and company procedures.
  • NVQ Level 3 in their specialist area. E.g. Hospitality Supervision
  • Key Skills - transferable skills including Application of Number and Communication. (Exemptions may apply.)

Hospitality Apprenticeships give young people hands on experience; the Hospitality Training Foundation (HTF) on behalf of hospitality employers developed them. They are structured qualifications designed to meet the needs of the hospitality sector.

It does not affect your business at all, we manage the whole apprenticeship programme for you - this includes the funding, associated paperwork and health and safety updates - aiming for minimum disruption and leaving you to concentrate on running your business.

How much do they cost?

The programmes are fully funded by the government through the Learning and Skills council for eligible candidates; so do not cost you or the apprentice a penny. An apprentice must:

  • Be in full time employment (Earning a Minimum of £80 per week)
  • Not have completed a university degree or be studying on a government-funded course (ie full time education).
  • Be between 16-24 years of age.

How are they achieved?

  • On site observations /assessments of working skills/practices
  • Collecting supportive evidence e.g. delivery notes/machine dockets/cleaning and staff rotas.
  • Proof of best practice over a period of time.
  • Questioning and answering sessions providing knowledge and understanding.
  • Recording of existing on-the-job training
