Who is it for?

Principles of Manual Handling is a stand alone qualification aimed at those who carry out manual handling activities

             

Course Aims

The principles in manual handling course is designed to introduce learners to the hazards of manual handling and to look at their own work activities and contribute to the development of safer methods and tasks

             

Pre-requisites

It is not expected that learners have any previous qualifications or knowledge in this subject; however, it is strongly recommended that learners already hold the CIEH

Foundation Certificate in Health & Safety

             

Training Delivery Methodology

The Level 1 Principles of Manual Handling offers a flexible approach for training delivery at Charnwood Training Consultants or in the workplace*

  • A tutored course of face to face delivery

 

*Minimum 6 learners for workplace delivery

              

Method of Assessment

A synoptic examination of 60 minutes duration, consisting of 20, short answer questions.

Pass Mark            14/20

Qualification Structure

 

Unit 1

Manual Handling in the Workplace

By the end of this unit the learner should be able to:

  • Explain what is meant by the term ‘manual handling’ and give examples

Unit 2

Manual Handling Injuries

By the end of this unit the learner should be able to:

  • Explain how manual handling can cause injury and give examples

Unit 3

Manual Handling Assessment and Control

By the end of this unit the learner should be able to:

  • State the principles for controlling manual handling risks and apply these in a practical context
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of the value and purpose of conducting a manual handling assessment and what employees can expect of such assessments

Unit 4

Manual Handling Operations Regulations

By the end of this unit the learner should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the main provisions of the manual handling operations regulations
