Course Aims
The Medic First Aid® course has been developed to meet the recommendations by the HSE for Appointed Persons in the workplace
Pre-requisites
Learners are not expected to have any previous knowledge or qualifications in the subject
Training Delivery Methodology
The Medic First Aid® offers a flexible approach for training delivery at Charnwood Training Consultants:
- A tutored course combining video segments to convey essential information
- Hands on practical sessions to develop skills and confidence
- Tutored face to face delivery
Method of Assessment
The programme methodology is based on the continuous assessment of simulated activities. Performance is measured individually as the learner progresses through the essential First Aid Skills

Unit 1 |
Setup and Barriers
By the end of this unit the learner should be able to:
· Demonstrate how to safely approach the scene of an accident
· Demonstrate how to check the environment is safe
· Demonstrate how to protect themselves and patients |

Unit 2 |
Initial Assessment
By the end of this unit the learner should be able to:
· Demonstrate how to assess a patients responsiveness, airway and breathing
· Demonstrate how to check for and control serious bleeding
· Demonstrate how to check for signs of shock and provide suitable care
· Demonstrate how to appropriately position a patient |

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
By the end of this unit the learner should be able to:
· Describe when to carry out CPR
· Demonstrate how to carry out CPR Correctly
· Demonstrate the different methods and special procedures of CPR |

Choking Management
By the end of this unit the learner should be able to:
· Demonstrate how to respond to a responsive and unresponsive choking adult
· Describe how to aid a patient with an obstructed airway, which is unresponsive |

Control of Bleeding

· Demonstrate applying pressure dressings
