What is the Customer and Drinks Unit?
The Customer and Drinks Service unit is a national qualification for persons working in on-licensed premises. As a result of obtaining this unit, barstaff will be able to identify the basic service standards they must meet when working in on-licensed premises. The Customer and Drinks Service unit serves as a stand-alone qualification and also forms one unit of the Professional Barperson’s Qualification.
Who is the qualification for?
The Customer and Drinks Service unit is designed for barstaff, working in on-licensed premises in England and Wales, as an introduction to the skills they will need to work professionally in the bar.
What does the course cover?
On successful completion of this qualification candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of:
- Preparing the bar for service.
- Clearing, cleaning and closing.
- Maintaining customer care.
- Maintaining working relationships.
As a result of obtaining this unit, barstaff will be able to identify the basic service standards they must meet when working in on-licensed premises. A certificate stating the candidate has achieved this qualification, is awarded by the BIIAB upon successful completion of the unit.
How long is the training course, and how much will it cost?
The course is usually held over one day, including the examination. A self-study handbook is available from Charnwood
What does the assessment involve?
An automated telephone multiple choice question test, which is acceded via a personal identification number (PIN). There are 30 questions and 21 correct answers are needed to pass. The test can be taken via the telephone 24 hours a day. A demonstration line is available on 0900 777 1110. The call is charged at premium rate (50p per minute) and the duration of the call is just over 3 minutes.
The cost is £75 plus VAT per person. Fees include all course materials and examination costs.
